Galesburg Fall Festival 2007
Tree Triming and Maintenance
For years many different people and organizations have attempted to collect enough money and secure the proper approval to add attractive city gateway signs on the four major roads entering the City of Galesburg. All have been unable to accomplish this task until now.
At the Aug. 27th DDA meeting the board unatamously approved the first of many signs to be built and installed on 35th street as you enter the City of Galesburg. It will be 10ft wide and 7ft tall in total. Landscaping and lighting is expected to follow. This attractive
sign was paid for by the DDA and private donations in the amount of approx. $5,300.00. This addition to the city is sure to make people take note that the DDA is not going to talk about doing things, it will take action!
In 2009, the Galesburg DDA sought out a few speakers on grants available for downtown improvements and they were able to secure a grant that exceeded $500,000.00 to
redeveloped and improve the downtown district. This was the largest grant awarded to a municipality in Michigan, in 2009. This was by far the largest grant ever received by
the City of Galesburg in its history.
The DDA was able to get a final answer on the removal of some un-used power poles in the downtown district.
These poles had been put in place to hold up and power the old christmas decorations years ago. They have since been
abandoned and have been littering the skyline, along with all the rest of the active poles. On June 2nd, the poles were
removed by the Graham family and their equipment. It certainly helps the downtown look more progressive!
To date (Jan 1., 2011) the DDA has donated $1,750.00 toward the paint credit grants.
The DDA spent over $3,000.00 in the fall of 2010 putting up the "Welcome to Galesburg" & organization greeting signs as you enter Galesburg coming from Charleston Township
on E. Michigan Ave, as you enter Galesburg coming from Augusta on M-96 and as you enter Galesburg on 35th street just over the bridge.
The Galesburg DDA spent $400+ on purchasing and putting up Christmas lights on the pine tree nect to PNC bank and white light on all the street
light poles around downtown.
